When is a WOF required for a car?
It’s a legal requirement to have your vehicle inspected for a WOF, from July 1st 2014:
- All vehicles first registered (anywhere) 2000 onwards will move permanently onto a twelve monthly inspection frequency.
- All new vehicles (first time registration) will have an initial WoF inspection at time of first registration. The next WoF inspection will be due 3 years, then annually thereafter.
All vehicles first registered (anywhere) prior to January 1st 2000 will remain on 6 monthly WoF inspections permanently.
When is a WOF required for a Light trailer?
If you tow a light trailer (up to 3500kg when loaded), it must have a WoF.
A trailer is required to have a WOF every 12 months
When is a WOF required for a Light Commercial?
Your light commercial vehicle must have a Warrant of Fitness (WoF). The WoF check combines a visual inspection with a brake performance test. If your vehicle was first manufactured less than 6 years ago, it will need a WoF test annually. When it is over 10 years old, it will need testing every 6 months.
